Advent Fellowship Groups

Advent Fellowship Groups are an integral part of the Advent community, representing both an ideal place for newcomers to connect and a context for long-term spiritual formation and discipleship.  Even if you have never attended a Sunday worship service with us, you are welcome to any of our groups.

Why do we have Fellowship Groups?

We have found that life in the city can be a lonely experience.  In the fast-paced culture of Washington D.C., it is sometimes very difficult to find good friends with whom to share life.  Psalm 68:6 says, “God sets the lonely in families,” and we believe He does this through the church.  For many in our congregation, Fellowship Groups have become that family.

Moreover, the early Christians worshiped together as a whole, but they also had regular fellowship with one another in their homes. These intimate gatherings were the context in which believers were to bring psalms, hymns, lessons, etc. to build one another up (1 Cor. 14:26) according to their gifts.  In this way, these smaller communities help to foster a strong, vibrant culture in the larger church.

When and where do Advent Fellowship Groups meet?

Fellowship groups usually meet weekday evenings from around 7:30-9:30 PM in locations all over the city.  Chances are, there is one that meets near you.  To locate a group, click here.

How are Advent Fellowship Groups organized?

Each group is made up of 7-10 men and women.  They are led by male and female co-leaders who are equipped to act as shepherds to help provide care for our community.  We encourage you to find a group meeting near where you live; however, all groups are open to anyone who would like to attend.

How can I join an Advent Fellowship Group?

Here are two ways to join an Advent Fellowship Group:

  1. Ask people you meet at church if they are in a group, and go to theirs.
  2. Email Lauren Little at llittle@adventdc.org and include your name, phone number and address.
