All are welcome to join us for worship on Sunday evenings at 5 pm, and to our meal immediately following the service, usually around 7pm. The food is freely provided by the members and regular attenders of Advent. Below you will find some characteristics of our worship:
The earliest Christians believed that Jesus was crucified and died on what is now called Good Friday. Then by the greatest of all miracles, he came back to life on the first Easter. His resurrection meant for them the repair of a broken past, hope for the present, and the promise of eternal life together in the future. In solemn remembrance of Jesus’ death, and in joyful celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, they began a tradition of meeting each Sunday to worship him.
The earliest Christians met together each week as friends, joining in prayer, Scripture and song, and sharing a holy meal together in the transcendent presence of God. We continue this tradition every Sunday at 5 pm. After worship, around 7 pm, we hope you will stay to share a meal with us. This food is freely provided by our members and regular attenders.
We are a liturgical church. Our worship services follow the same basic outline as most Christian churches since the days of the earliest Christians. At the same time, we fill in the details of the service with the music and language of the present. It’s easy to follow along using both the printed service bulletin provided as you enter the church and the projection screen.
During the Prayers of the People each week, we pray for the church, the world, the city, those in need, and our own special concerns. Toward the end of the service, a team of prayer ministers are available to serve you if you would like to pray with someone about anything or anyone that may be on your heart.
Each week, we conclude our worship service with Holy Communion. It is a feast in the presence of the Lord Jesus and a meansof grace for his disciples. We invite to the Lord’s Table all persons who have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and who are endeavoring to follow Him through repentance and faith. If you don’t know where you stand with Jesus, or if you are estranged from him or the church, you are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing from one of the ministers, or you may remain seated.
Children are welcome in our worship services. We provide a chapel ministry during part of the service for children 10 and under.
You may wear whatever you like; some people dress more casually and others dress more formally.
