Advent is devoted to serving the men, women and children of Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant and Adams Morgan. The majority of people in our community gather weekly in community groups that seek ways to serve in their immediate surroundings. In addition, here are some of the ways our church is currently involved: working with homeless men in transition, teaching ESL, working with battered women, supporting the local crisis pregnancy care center, and working with youth in the local high schools. If you would like to know more or get involved, email info@adventdc.org.
Church of the Advent is a part of RenewDC, a gospel-centered church planting initiative. We pray and work for personal, societal and cultural renewal throughout metropolitan Washington DC by establishing community-focused neighborhood churches in the Anglican tradition.
Our offices in Dupont Circle serve three sister congregations: the Church of the Advent in Columbia Heights, the Church of the Resurrection on Capitol Hill and the Church of the Ascension in Arlington, Virginia. Pastors and staff meet together weekly for prayer, mutual encouragement, strategy, and sharing of best practices. As God provides people and financial resources, we will continue to establish separate new congregations throughout metro Washington while remaining a united family in Christ.
With other orthodox churches, we share a common mission of advancing the Kingdom of God in the city. Our three sister congregations seek to support and encourage the ministry of other churches such as Capitol Hill Baptist, Christ our Shepherd Church, Grace Presbyterian, Grace Meridian Hill, National Community Church, The District Church, and Washington Community Fellowship. We are prayerfully seeking partnerships with additional gospel-centered communities.
